There are people who are very clear about it. He wants a puppy, or a kitten, and does not think about anything else. But sometimes it can happen that maybe we just want some company, or a pet for our children, and we are not sure which is the best option. Today we are going to talk about the sometimes difficult decision of choosing to have a dog or a cat at home.
Dogs
Dependents and good natured . The dog is “man’s best friend” as history says. The dog depends on you, and it needs you to dedicate time and attention, so if you do not usually stay at home, it is almost never the most suitable option. But if you are relatively homemade you will have the dog always watching out for you.
In addition, when it comes to getting along with him, the dog is more sensitive to your calls, and will always appear to play or eat (although not always in that order).
Food expenses . When it comes to feeding dogs, food is usually more expensive in their case, among other things because, of course, a dog eats more than a cat, especially if it is larger.
On the street! In the case of dogs, you have to take them out at least a couple of times a day, so if you are not going out on the street for long walks forget about it. A dog needs it, sport gives it life. Even in the least active breeds.
Simpler to tame . When it comes to letting your dog know who’s boss, it’s easier, by nature they live in packs and are used to having a leader to obey. Although, as we have said on other occasions, it is vital to dedicate time to educate your dog well.
Hairdressing and aesthetics . The dog (differentiated by breed, some more and others less) suffers from a known loss of hair. It is true that cats do too, but the dog grows faster and therefore loses more. In addition, the dog requires more care, such as fixing the nails, cleaning the ears or combing them. Not counting those used for beauty pageants.
Cats
Independence and anarchy . The cat is more independent, so if you are one of those who are little at home, your cat will hardly notice it, since it is more natural for him to live alone. It is true that the cat is more anarchic but it can be tamed (although with more difficulty)
Cleaning . In the cat character, cleanliness goes in the DNA. A cat always wants to be clean and you will always see him washing. Their environment is usually clean and if you are one of those who find it difficult to clean them, this will be your related animal.
Games . The cat loves to play, although with you it rarely does. Or at least compared to the dog. If what you want is a friend to accompany you in the games, the cat “will not be for the work” as many times as the dog.
Night hunter . You will be surprised to see that your cat runs around at night and sleeps during the day. It is quite common for the cat to be more active at night and sleeping peacefully during the day.
Vaccines and diseases . The cat, in principle, does not require as much veterinary care and vaccinations, although both will need to be dewormed.
Silence . The cat is the king of silence. The normal thing is that it hardly meows, except for times of heat in females. The dog barks although there is a great variety of breeds and there are those that barely bark.
At this point, when choosing a dog or cat, it is best to make sure what we want and what resources we can offer (space at home, available time, money for food and veterinary expenses …) .
